The Raiders have drafted Maryland Wide Receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey with their 7th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.  Michael Crabtree was expected to be selected, but was passed on by the Raiders and later drafted by the San Francisco 49ers.

Heyward-Bey’s college career stats at the University of Maryland include 138 receptions for 2,089 yards and 13 touchdowns.  Heyward-Bey has tremendous speed, registering a 4.30 in the 40-yard-dash.

I”m not disappointed with the draft pick, but it would’ve been alot more beneficial to draft defense, and the 2 names that pop out: Brian Orokpo and Everette Brown.
Make JaMarcus train with his receivers NOW to get each other’s timing down and let them mesh.
Defensively, it would’ve wonderful to get a pass rush on one side, and have a shutdown corner on the other.
LB would’ve been a very good pick to with Brian Cushing or Rey Malalauga (sp)
    AND THEY’RE IN OAKLAND’S BACKYARD!

Heyward-Bey is a very good receiver. I see all the Maryland games and know a great deal of his talents, and JaMarcus would do himself a WORLD of good to starting working with this guy:
JaMarcus’ arm…Heyward-Bey’s speed and hands…the Raider air game has the potential to be amoung the top.

Is Al Davis trying to ruin the Raiders? The Raiders had the chance to take a game changing WR in Michael Crabtree and passed for Heyward-Bey with the 7th pick are you kidding me!! If the Raiders wanted Heyward-Bey thats fine, but why not trade down and get him in the mid to late first round like he was expected to be drafted? Then they could get more picks and save alot of money on an unproven player. I was hoping for either Crabtree who is a #1 receiver right now or offensive tackle Monroe out of Virgina to help build an offensive line for Russell and get a receiver in round 2. I don’t understand this pick at all, Al Davis has become old and crazy and needs to step down in order for the Raiders to ever again be a great franchise.

Wow some of you guys are not at all raiders Big Al has got us there many
times. MC was a great WR in college
for 2 reasons 1)Pass first offensive
team that always lined up 3-4 wr along
with bubble screens 2)Played in the big
12 with very weak defenses. My next point
is rather simple we do not ever want a player whom when ask if wanted 2 play for us and his response was no comment says it all. We also have no need for players whom hobby is fashion along with
running a 4.57 as a WR please no way.
This is raider football guys remember we made football what it is today. Enough about that guy he is better off
with the 49ers DHB is a complete football players guys just what the doctor ordered 4.2 - 4.3 speed along with passing, blocking and skills. His main objective is to play team football
chill guys we are fine get ready for a great raider season.

look guy’s most draftes are just happy as hell just to be drafted by any team(If you followed the draft one of the top Olineman cryed just because he was drafted) but Crabtree didn’t want to be a Raider. Crabtree moma didn’t want her son going to a builder club. To be truethful I think Crabtree wanted to go to 49er all along. Why would we Draft a WR who didnt to be a Raider it makes no sense to draft Crabtree who most likely bail and under active the first chance he get’s to get out of Oakland. Look to me it’s the Moss thing all over again. We would have to trade Crabtree just to shut the guy up and the Raider Nation is left scratching our heads wondering what the hell happened with Crabtree. Were out a 7th round draft pick will Oakland gets a lower compansation pick for a underpreforming Crabtree.

Look some other tide bit’s about Maclin and Crabtree is both collages run a pass first club’s spread offences. Look Crabtrees Texas Tech Red Raiders passed over 600 times in a year hell the Top QB’s in the NFL dont pass that much in a season to me that means Crabtrees and Maclins WR preformance will drop in NFL. Maclin and Crabtree both played against some horriable pass Defenses and to which both had injurries. Maclin had knee problem and Crabtree had a previous injurry from collage that he didnt inform anyone about to which that meant Crabtree was hiding his injurries to bost his draft stock. To which Crabtree reinjurries the same foot he injurried in collage and Crabtree never runs a satisfying 40 yard dash. Oakland and the rest of the NFL are left guessing what is Crabtrees 40 time because we can not take Crabtrees word for his 40 time after he wasnt truethful about injurrying his foot in the first place. Crabtrees surgery wont be no walk in the park stuff were talking pins and the Raiders are left wondering will this affect Crabtree sepperation and speed or will Crabtree play the same way.

BHB wasnt that bad of pick if you realize a few thing first Maryland HC openly admited to not using DHB properly by utalizing DHB properly in his playbook. Maryland was run first offene and then I throw in Maryland horriable QB preformance I mean DHB openly admited that the QB preformance wasnt pretty to playing with as a Trup. A lot of times DHB was adjusting to badly thrown passes. DHB played against the better pass Deffences then Maclin and Crabtree. DHBs hands arent as bad as people make it out be and DHB isnt just a vertiacle threat he can juke and jive and can create plays on the spot. DHD is always a threat to score after the catch. Look the only problem I see DHB is he doesnt go up for the ball all the time. DHB doesnt realize his height is an advantage against deffenders.

Oh by the way about the Mike Mitchell pick the more I read about Mike Mitchell the more I like this pick. Alright Mitchell laid out 2 to 3 players in collage and im talking about bring out the those packets to revive the player from lala land. Mike Mitchell reminds of Atwater, Lott or even J. Tatum where they deliver the Oh Ah hits. Mike Mitchell also plays SS and FS look I didnt see any big question marks with Mike Mitchell play. The only problem Mike Mitchell had he wasnt rapping up player but his coach and Mike Mitchell worked on his rap up skills all last year and Mitchell coach said Mike finall got it and his improvided bunches its not a problem. Cable hes interested in playing Tyvon Branch and Mike Mitchell and interchanging these guys.

Look if Mike Mitchell would of been invited to camp he would of truned some head in camp but no he was small school crap that got no respect for his play. If you remember no one knew jack about Mike Mitchell However a few draft prospect boards considered Mike Mitchell as a top 6 S in the draft.

I never said DHB was a bad player let me state that first, what I said was that it was a bad pick in that spot. If Al Davis wanted Heyward-Bey that’s fine, but he was a middle to late first round pick not a top 10 pick. He should have traded down and got him and got a few more picks, but no they take him too high and now have to pay him alot more money. I don’t have anything against Heyward-Bey but it makes more sense to trade down and get him and save some money than take him so early. He never proved anything in college other than he was fast so I don’t understand why take him so early. Some people had him going in early round two even and we take him in the top 10 that’s just not smart. Al Davis built this league and I admire him for that, but lately the old man has lost his mind. And for those who said Crabtree wanted to go to the 49′ers your stupid, they are a running team that has no QB no wr wants to go there. And those who said Crabtree and Maclin won’t be good NFL recievers because they were in a pass first system, maybe it’s because they had great recievers like Crabtree and Maclin, I bet if the Maryland thought that Heyward-Bey was a stud like Crabtree they would have gotten him the ball more than 42 times last season. Let’s compare stats, Heyward-Bey 42 rec. 609 yards, 5 td. Not bad but not great. Crabtree 93 rec. 1135 yards and 18 td. Thats more than twice as many catches, almost twice as many yards and over three times as many touchdowns in one season. I don’t care how fast you run if you can run good routes and catch everything thrown your way you’ll be a good nfl reciever. Look at Rice and Brown, in their best years they weren’t the fastest guys in the league or even on their team for that matter, but they ran good routes and could catch everything, so you idiots that say oooohhh…..well….Crabtree runs a 4.5 big deal if he runs a good route and loses the corner it doesn’t matter and if Heyward-Bey runs a 4.2 and can’t catch a cold what good is that 4.2 without the football.
